36 Cube Contest Ends, Prizes Still Unclaimed

Well, our 36 Cube Contest deadline of December 31 has been reached. How did you do? As of January 1, 2009, there are 18 people who found the correct solution and notified us according to the rules. That’s exactly 50% of the 36 prizes we were looking to award. Very interesting…

Let’s start with all of you who contacted us to say that you had not solved the 36 Cube. There is a lot of passion out there! Solvers whose spouses made them stop before they could finish, non-mathematicians telling us the puzzle is too random, mathematicians telling us that it is impossible to solve. We love you all! And we feel your pain… this is a hard puzzle, no doubt about it.

And now to those of you who have solved the puzzle, and won a Game Club Kit for their local school. Yeah! Fantastic work! Congratulations to you all. I won’t go on at length here, if you want to learn more just click through to comments and stories from our contest winners about their solving experiences.

So what do we do now? Should we extend the contest? Should we give hints? We’re debating this now, please check back to this blog to keep updated on our progress.

Happy puzzling!
